About the role

North Burnett Regional Council is seeking a Biosecurity Officer to join our Environmental Services Team based Biggenden (or in any of the locations across the North Burnett Region by negotiation).

This is a diverse role that would appeal to someone who has a passion for land protection, engaging with the community and has a high level of understanding of pest management control processes. This opportunity will provide the successful candidate with the perfect balance between field and office-based work and is integral in delivering Council’s environmental programs.

The Biosecurity Officer role will undertake the control, monitoring and reporting of invasive pests and the enforcement of the Biosecurity Act, and to support natural resource management activities in the North Burnett Region.

About you

You will be a proactive individual with excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Have initiative and ability to work autonomously, with the flexibility to plan your own work schedule, while also able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team where required.

You will also have experience in the identification and control of various invasive species, animals, vectors, livestock and stock routes, including the appropriate and safe application of herbicides and pesticides.

You will have the ability to keep records, compile reports and update Council Information Management Systems, including mapping.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Current unrestricted ‘C’ class drivers licence.
  • Possess a Work Safe in the Construction Industry Induction Certificate (White Card).
  • Certificate III relevant to the work area, e.g. Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management.
  • Competencies related to the application of herbicides, pesticides, and poison baits.
  • Commercial Operator’s Licence (for ground distribution of agricultural chemicals).
  • Traffic Management Implementation Program licence.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call roster and attend call outs as required.
