Council update for 21-09-17

Sep 22, 2017 | Mayor's Blog

Mayor’s Desk – 21 September 2017

Deputy Mayor Cr Faye Whelan

Rachel is taking a well deserved break this week to spend time with her family and recharge after 18 months in office. The election seems a distant memory but time does not stand still and many achievements have been accomplished by this Council working collaboratively with community and staff on all levels. Currently we are undergoing a restructure to fit our new Corporate Plan aspirations. Last week we bid farewell to Brendan Pearce, General Manager of Engineering and Environment for the past three and a half years. Brendan has taken a position with Cloncurry Shire Council and we wish him well in his new position.

Interviews to fill three senior executive positions left vacant over a period of time including the General Manager of Engineering and Environment will be held next week. What we can announce is Council is actively recruiting for a new Economic Development position. This budgeted position was held in the past by an outside consultancy firm. This Council wanted an experienced officer employed and living within the North Burnett to support our existing businesses and new enterprises on a daily basis. Tourism promotion will play a big part in the officer’s role. Rachel will introduce our new staff members through her column when they come on board.

All of our six major towns should be seeing projects started or complete under the State Government funded Works for Queensland program. Projects like the Monto CBD Revitalisation, former Eidsvold SES Shed, Gayndah Footpath Upgrade, Mundubbera Hall Air Con Upgrade, Biggenden Swimming Pool water play area and Mt Perry Creek Beautification, and soon to start Footpath Main Street Mt Perry project. We are grateful for the funding because most of these projects would generally be on a long priority list which often gets pushed back due to emergency needs within our annual budgets.

Parents make sure you support our Library School Holiday programs. Lots of fun for everyone. Don’t disappoint our Librarians. They look forward to hosting your children during holiday periods.

Regards, Faye.
