The Bottle Time Capsule at the Gayndah Swimming pool will be opened after 50 years, on 29 January 2022.

Originally installed in 1972 to commemorate the opening of the Gayndah Swimming Pool, the Bottle was constructed with the help of local people and contains a collection of special memorabilia from this time.

Gayndah locals, new and returning, will be invited to celebrate 50 years of the Gayndah Swimming Pool and partake in the opening of the time capsule.

As part of the daytime festivities starting from 2pm, the official ceremony to open the time capsule will be at 3pm, followed by setting of the new capsule. Continuing into the evening, live music and food and refreshments will be available to purchase.

After many years in the weather, the Bottle is in bad repair and has no openings. This means that it will be difficult to open to access the inside items and it will need to be cut open to retrieve the contents.

Due to the structural condition and materials used for the Bottle, it will likely not be possible to retain or relocate the monument to another site without it falling apart.

It is anticipated that once the Bottle is opened, the cement slab and fence will be removed, and the area returned to lawn space to avoid any risk to pool users.

Further updates will be provided closer to the opening of the Bottle Time Capsule.
