Labourer (Civil Works)

North Burnett Regional Council is currently recruiting for the position of Labourer in the Civil Works team based in Biggenden. Reporting to the Civil Works Supervisor, the Labourer will work as part of a multi-skilled team assisting with the construction of new Council, Private and Main Roads works, and the maintenance of existing services and structures in connection with roads, drainage, footpaths, and other functions of Council.



The successful candidate will be a team player who is motivated and enjoys working out in the field. We are ideally seeking applications from candidates with demonstrated experience in the operation and maintenance of relevant plant, equipment and tools, however candidates who may be looking for a start within the civil works space are also encouraged to apply. This is a position that will offer plenty of variety in your daily work, opportunities for training and development and career progression.



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Carrying out labouring tasks in the construction and maintenance of roads, including traffic control procedures, kerb and gutter, footpath and concrete drainage.
  • Safely operating and maintaining a variety of commercial plant/equipment and tools relevant to the work area.
  • Maintaining work sites, depots, plant and equipment in a clean and safe condition.
  • Record keeping of work complete, for example: maintenance schedule and chemical usage.


To be successful in this role you must possess the following:

  • Unrestricted driver’s license – ‘C’ class is essential.
  • Work Safe in the Construction Industry Induction Certificate (White Card) – essential.
  • Ability to carry out tasks requiring the application of basic numeracy, literacy and verbal communication.
  • Traffic Management Implementation Program Licence (desirable).
  • Traffic Control Industry Authority (desirable).

As part of Council’s employment screening process, successful appointment to the role/s would be subject the candidate satisfactorily passing Council’s medical and functional assessment based on the physical and safety requirements of the position.
