About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate People Partner to join our People and Culture team. Reporting directly to the People and Culture Manager, you will play a critical role within our team, offering specialist HR advice, coaching, and support to leaders and employees across the organisation. You will partner closely with our departments to provide strategic and operational HR solutions, driving business results through effective people management.

Your responsibilities will include coordinating training and development initiatives, interpreting industrial instruments to ensure compliance, and leading performance management processes. You will also manage employee grievances and investigations as required, while ensuring the consistent application of HR policies and procedures.

Leading a small team of People and Culture professionals, you will provide hands-on leadership, guidance, and mentorship to deliver contemporary HR services across our geographically dispersed workforce. Your ability to build strong working relationships with stakeholders will be key in fostering a positive and supportive work culture.

About you

We are looking for a qualified HR professional with a broad range of experience in generalist HR functions. You will be adept at offering contemporary and strategic HR advice, with expertise across areas such as recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and policy development.

Your strong interpersonal skills will allow you to build trust and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels. You are a natural leader with previous experience managing or mentoring teams, or a desire to develop your leadership capabilities.

With a high level of emotional intelligence and excellent communication skills, you will navigate complex issues like grievances and investigations with confidence, ensuring a fair and consistent approach across the organisation. A genuine passion for helping people reach their potential and contributing to a positive work environment will set you apart in this role.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide a professional and confidential advisory service and advice on all human resources matters, including coaching, mentoring and assistance to management on all HR matters.
  • Develop, implement and coordinate the administration of the recruitment and selection processes and represent the People and Performance Team on selection panels as required.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation and review of Council’s training and development function.
  • Provide Industrial Instrument interpretation and application and ensure compliance.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of HR policies and systems.
  • Develop, implement and coordinate performance management processes.
  • Manage employee grievances and conduct investigations as required.
  • Provide effective supervision and leadership within the People and Performance team.
