Effective from Thursday 2 December 2021, North Burnett residents will see amended Waste Fees and Charges become effective, reducing confusion and ensuring fairness in who is able to access free waste disposal at our Waste Management Facilities.

“We understand that some fees were confusing and open to interpretation, so we have worked with our staff to simplify this and provide clarity”, said Mayor Rachel Chambers.

“We are thankful that community have provided us with valid feedback and we have taken this on board and acted on it.

“Waste is a core service that Council provides to our community. And the intention has always been to reduce expenses to rate payers where practically possible and to be transparent about fees and charges.

“The State Government charges Council for every tonne of waste disposed to landfill, creating a user pays system that seeks to reduce disposal of waste to landfill and transition the state to a zero waste future.

“Council’s intention has always been to provide an element of free waste disposal and these fees and charges deliver on this, providing equity and clarity for residents and Council staff alike.”
