Reflect, respect and celebrate the spirit of community on Australia Day 2023.   We’re all part of the story.

Council is pleased to announce that we are privileged to have South Burnett Relay for Life volunteer, Rowena Dionysius, as our Australia Day Ambassador for 2023.

Rowena hails from Kingaroy and has been the Chair of South Burnett Relay for Life for 11 years. Rowena is wholeheartedly dedicated to her role and volunteers countless hours, organising events throughout the year, to raise funds for Cancer Council Queensland. Rowena was also a finalist in the 2022 Queensland Volunteering Awards.

“I am thrilled that Rowena Dionysius is joining us for our Regional Australia Day celebration in Eidsvold this year and I look forward to her arrival in the region. Mrs Dionysius will provide an Ambassador’s address and participate in our Australia Day Awards and Citizenship ceremonies. If you are passionate about volunteering and raising funds for a worthy cause, we encourage you to join us on Australia Day and to meet Rowena,” Mayor Les Hotz said.

The Australia Day Ambassador Program is one of the longest running and most successful national Australia Day programs, sending high achieving Australians to over 300 community celebrations nationwide, every Australia Day. Ambassadors are past recipients of the Australian of the Year Awards, sportspeople, scientists, businesspeople, actors and community workers who have contributed greatly to the community.

Australia Day is a time for all Australians to come together to reflect, respect and celebrate. It is a day to reflect on the past, present and future and to think about where we have been and where we are going as a nation. It is a day to listen to each other and respect each other’s stories and contributions and it’s a day to celebrate as a community and celebrate being Australians.

Council looks forward to hosting our first Regional Australia Day event in Eidsvold. We have partnered with community groups and businesses to host this event.

“We encourage and extend a warm welcome to all community members and visitors from across our region, to come together to reflect, respect and celebrate with us in Eidsvold on Australia Day,” Mayor Les Hotz said.
