WASTE FACILITY CHANGES FROM 1 OCTOBER 2021

Following the introduction of the Queensland Government Waste Levy in July 2019, North Burnett Regional Council (NBRC) has been reviewing options to ensure compliance with this legislation and ensure we are able to offer waste services and facilities into the future.

Council is committed to reducing expenses to rate payers where practically possible. In order for Council to provide these services across the region, we need to recover some expenses through waste charges.

Council’s costing model is based on a “user pays” system, where those that generate large amounts of waste are not subsidised by those that create less waste.

From 1 October 2021, there will be some changes to Council’s waste fees.

“These changes will not affect most of our waste facilities users, those that dispose of small levels of domestic waste.  For residents that put your rubbish on the back of the ute to take to the waste facility, you can continue to do this without paying fees” Mayor Chambers said.

“The fees introduced are more for commercial, industrial and construction waste.  Contractors will need to account for these fees as part of their business, a consideration that is a standard across the state.”

“We are not willing for all ratepayers to cover the cost of waste disposal for the high waste generators in our region.”

Opening hours of waste management facilities are also changing to manage the cost of waste in the North Burnett.  New opening hours will commence following the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, on Monday 4 October 2021.

Waste facilities in Biggenden, Eidsvold, Gayndah, Mt Perry and Monto will be open Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 12.30pm to 4.30pm.

As our regional landfill, the Mundubbera Waste Management Facility will be open Wednesday and Friday from 8am – 12pm and Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 8am to 4pm.

These hours reflect the site’s most visited times from statistics and are set to optimise the use of the facility while attendants are on-site.

There are no changes to kerbside collection.

A full list of waste fees and charges and opening hours can be viewed on our website and at Council facilities.
