Royal Brisbane Show – School Team Young Judges

It is exciting to share that the Monto State High School young judges team has been placed 2nd in the Royal Brisbane Show School Team Young Judges.

Four (4) students and four (4) steers from Monto State High School attended the 2023 EKKA. The students competed in all of the school competitions of young judges, young handlers, led steer and heifer competitions and an Interschool teams judging competition.

The interschool team judging competition consisted of teams of three (3) students and competed against 34 other teams from schools across QLD and NSW. The team were required to judge four (4) prime heifers and then the team spokesperson presented their placings and reasonings to the judge and the crowd.

The students worked tirelessly to prepare their animals for the competitions with one (1) steer placing 6th and another making the top 18 out of huge classes of up to 38 entries. All of the cattle were prepared by the students and processed at Nolan’s at Gympie with the results of the carcass judging being presented on Saturday 5 August 2023.

Sport a Flanno, Support a Farmer – 25 August 2023
Council has signed up to take part in the Drought Angels inaugural “Flanno for a Farmer Day”, to support Australian farmers and their families.

With the North Burnett made up from primarily farming communities, which are often impacted by natural disasters, this is a cause we are getting behind.

Most farmers would give the shirt off their own backs to help someone in need. Flanno for a Farmer Day is a way to let Aussie farmers know that we’ve got their backs.

You’ll see our team wearing their best ‘flannos’ Friday 25 August 2023 to get behind this cause!

Donations will be accepted in person at your local Centre or by calling 1300 696 272. For more information go to flannoforafarmer.com.au

Removal of Cadaghi Trees in Lister Street, Monto

Council is looking to remove six (6) Cadaghi trees from Lister Street, Monto in September 2023. The trees are being removed due to the safety concerns arising from large limbs breaking off and falling down in highly used spaces.

If you have any feedback relating to the proposed works, please contact Council on 1300 696 272 or email admin@northburnett.qld.gov.au prior to 25 August 2023.

TMR Resealing works

  • Eidsvold – Theodore Road
  • Gladstone – Monto Road
  • Maryborough – Biggenden Road
  • Burnett Highway

Please travel with care and allow sufficient time if these roadworks affect your travels.
