Current Emergency Management Information

As 2023 draws to an end, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the past twelve months. I want to express my sincere thanks to our community for supporting me as I faced a difficult year personally.  Life can take unpredictable turns and we are faced with multiple, emotional, and financial challenges, individually as well as Council. Throughout the year, Council have confronted many challenges and have made difficult decisions to ensure the liveability of our region and the financial sustainability of our Council.

Each month Councillors and I meet in the form of a general meeting. These meetings are open to all and provide the opportunity for the community to see firsthand the decision making process made by Council. This responsibility is not an easy task as we consider how to best meet the communities’ expectations and Council’s requirements. Thank you to each of our Councillors for your continued support and passion to ensuring that we are supporting the region.

I would like to acknowledge that Council staff work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that Council are meeting their legislative obligations, financial commitments and providing important services to our communities. On behalf of Councillors, I would personally like to thank each and every staff member within the North Burnett Regional Council team for the work they do every day.

Every community within the North Burnett holds a valuable place that makes up this region.  I would like to thank every community volunteer who selflessly gives their time and energy to your community.  From organising events that improves our economy and attracts visitors to our region to our SES and Rural Fire Brigade members, your contributions, big or small make a difference.

I’d also like to thank those who have provided feedback to Council, as well as taking the time to attend our General Meetings and public sessions. Your contributions are appreciated. Without people who genuinely care, we do not have a community or beautiful region to share.

I am encouraged by the progress of our students within all the schools throughout our region who have recently celebrated their academic and sporting achievements at the end of year functions, and I wish them success in their future studies in 2024.

As we reflect on the past year and look forward to the new one filled with hope and possibilities, let us continue to support one another, cherish our community bonds, and embrace the spirit and meaning of Christmas. Thank you for being an integral part of our communities’ journey.
