Budget Meeting
Councillors will meet this week on Wednesday, 10 July at the Gayndah Council Chambers to discuss and consider the final budget. Councillors have been working closely with executive staff to bring together Council’s 2024-2025 annual budget. New Efficient Kerbside Waste Collection Trucks
Council has welcomed two new kerbside collection trucks through its continued agreement with JJ’s Waste and Recycling to provide waste management solutions throughout our region.
The new trucks are safer and more efficient, ensuring they provide the best service to our community. We encourage residents to ensure that they are familiar with their collection information. This includes ensuring your bin is out before 6am on collection day, that it is placed a maximum of one metre from the kerb with the lid opening onto the roadside, and that it is not too heavy or overfull with lids that can fully close. NAIDOC Week Activities
The Eidsvold NAIDOC Community Exhibition opened last week at the Reginald Murray Williams Australian Bush Learning Centre and is showcasing a culmination of historical and contemporary pieces of indigenous cultural significance to the Eidsvold Community. The exhibition was coordinated by EJ Garrett Pty Ltd and funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency for the 2024 NAIDOC celebrations. The exhibition opening was celebrated by approximately 80 people, including Councillor Susan Payne, with EJ Garrett describing the exhibition as “a strong statement of the cultural integrity that exists here in Eidsvold and demonstrates the connection we have to each other and to our culture.” This exhibition will be open to the public through July and August. There are more than 70 pieces on display that range from paintings, weaving, digital art, clothing, artefacts, and even usable items.
2025 Australian of the Year Awards
The prestigious Australian of the Year Awards are now open and will close 31 July 2024. If you know an outstanding individual who has shown courage and inspires you to make contributions to make a better Australia, consider taking the time to nominate them. Categories include Young Australian of the Year (aged 16–30), Senior Australian of the Year (over 65 years), and Australian of the Year, as well as Australia’s Local Hero. The Queensland recipients of the 2025 Australian of the Year Awards will be announced in November 2024. These recipients will then represent our state at the national awards held in Canberra. Councillor Activities
During the past week, Deputy Mayor Melinda Jones and I travelled to Canberra to attend the 2024 Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) National General Assembly (NGA). The theme of the 2024 NGA was “Building Community Trust.” The conference program featured a range of high-profile and engaging speakers who explored ideas about what creates trust and how we, as local government representatives, can nurture it. We are fortunate to have attended this insightful event.
