Current Emergency Management Information

At its October 2024 General Meeting, Councillors endorsed the North Burnett Regional Council 2023-2024 Annual Report.

The 2023-24 Annual Report provides a comprehensive overview of Council’s successes and challenges. Throughout the period, great outcomes have been achieved, with the delivery of major projects like the Biggenden Water Treatment Facility and several crucial disaster management projects.

“Looking back at the year that was, I am reminded of both our successes and challenges,” North Burnett Regional Council Mayor Les Hotz said.

“We have achieved great outcomes but have also faced significant headwinds.”

While delivering pivotal multi-year projects, Council has also contended with persistently high inflation, supply chain delays, and the impacts of natural disasters. Adding to these pressures was the delayed payment of the Commonwealth-funded Financial Assistance Grant to all councils, which has previously been paid in June prior to the end of the financial year.

The delay in payment did not impact Council’s ability to deliver services; however, it has significantly impacted Council’s 2023-24 financial results. The late payment reduced Council’s 2023-24 operating revenue by $10.11 million, which was subsequently paid to Council on 2 July 2024 following the end of the reporting period.

“I wish to assure residents that Council remains focused on our long-term financial and service sustainability and community liveability. Community priorities, balanced with prudent financial management, will be the hallmark of how we go forward,” Chief Executive Officer Craig Matheson said.

“It is always easy to showcase the good work of others, and in presenting the 2023-2024 Annual Report, that is exactly what I am doing. What has been delivered during the 2023-24 year is testament to the hard work, consideration, professionalism, and care of the great team of people that make up the North Burnett Regional Council.

“The challenges are many and complex, and the opportunities are boundless, and I am constantly inspired by the authentic approach of our people at Council in being their best every day to help this beautiful region to thrive,” Mr Matheson added.

Mayor Hotz said, “Our collective efforts and dedication seek to build trust within our community as we endeavour to meet their needs and also lay a strong foundation for future growth.”

“The Annual Report provides an extensive overview of our progress and activities, and I am pleased to present this year’s report.”
