Giving your loved ones and North Burnett locals lots to smile about this Christmas!

The Burnett Christmas Pop Up Shop is a celebration of creative artisans and small businesses that call the North Burnett home. The Pop Up Shop showcases a wide ranging collection of handcrafted and homemade gifts for 10 days in their Mundubbera shopfront.

Connecting the Burnett’s best makers, creators and artists with consumers that shop with purpose this Christmas, the Burnett Christmas’ annual event from December 2 – 12 is not to be missed!

Run by a passionate subcommittee of the Central Burnett Landcare, The atmosphere in the 2019 Shop was relaxing, exciting and filled with pride for the talented artists offering their products with 2020 expecting to build from last year’s Shop.

The Shop gives purpose and an uplift to rural families who are struggling with drought conditions, bringing life and activity to the main street and encouraged locals to spend their Christmas dollar locally.

The momentum from the 2019 event has continued and locals and visitors alike have marked their calendars to support local North Burnett talent. Last year’s event showcased 33 small businesses from across the North Burnett, receiving back nearly $50,000 of sales from the Pop Up Shop! This year’s event has promised to be bigger and better with exhibitors starting to make goods specifically for the Shop many months in advance.

If you are looking for a way to support small and rural businesses this Christmas – it may be time for you to hit the road! Centrally located in Mundubbera, just off Australia’s Country Way and the end of the Rural Getaway, this friendly country town has plenty to enjoy. Shop the main street and buy unique gifts, enjoy a coffee, chat to a local, and explore what this naturally beautiful region has to offer.

Here’s a sneak peak at a small selection of the artisans that will be on offer at the Burnett Christmas Pop Up Shop. For more information and inspiration on where to start your Santa list, check out https://www.facebook.com/BurnettChristmas/.

Andrew Vicary

When one of his daughters asked Andrew to make a timber wishing well for their wedding he rolled his eyes, like most fathers would. But, as a father of 7 girls he was once again outnumbered and couldn’t say no.

With an abundance of timber on his property, usually used for fencing, it is not uncommon for Andrew to spot logs suited for garden ornaments and with a little encouragement get creative with the chainsaw.

Lucem

In January of 2013, Lucy Connolly attended a millinery summer school course in Toowoomba where she was amazed by the process. Deciding to take up the art form, she bought her very first sewing machine and set on her journey home to begin creating pieces.

Only days after arriving home, Lucy’s house was flooded and her brand new sewing machine, still in its box, washed away. Her classmates from the summer school banded together and bought Lucy a new machine and she has been creating ever since.

Although Lucy still makes headpieces, her love has further developed for creating leather and handbags.
