Flying foxes are currently present in a number of North Burnett communities.

Disturbing flying foxes will increase health risks to the community, so it is important for residents to be aware of flying foxes nearby, keep a safe distance from them and do not touch bats or flying foxes, even when they appear to be deceased.

If you become bitten or scratched, seek medical attention immediately.

The Department of Environment and Science provides information on flying foxes, as well as tips for living safely near them. You can access this information on their website here www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/animals/living-with/bats

If you have a flying fox roost in or near your property, please report to Council. You can also find more information on bat and flying fox safety, on Council’s website www.northburnett.qld.gov.au/flying-foxes or contact Council’s Environmental team on 1300 696 272.
