Council is pleased to announce that significant progress has been made on the Bon Accord Bridge refurbishment, with the bridge contractor completing the bridge structure and initial seal in October 2024.
In addition to the completed bridge work, Stage 2 – Approach Works, has been awarded and is well underway with bulk earthworks and the first approach slabs completed. The local subcontractors are working to complete the remaining relieving slabs and concrete shoulder protection, including gabion baskets.
Following concrete works, finalisation of the verge and shoulder clearing, road and bridge surfacing, signage, and line-marking will be completed. These works will also address some of the safety concerns that have been raised by the community.
Once the bridge is open to the public, the road safety auditors will return to finalise the road safety audit works. The final inspections must be carried out while the road and bridge are in use and will allow the auditors to identify any additional areas for consideration.
While Council would like to provide a firm date for the bridge opening, we are reluctant to do so due to the unstable and, in some cases, isolated weather conditions currently being experienced across the region.
Council appreciates the community’s patience and understanding during the bridge closure. We are working closely with the project team to ensure the delivery of a high-quality refurbished bridge.
