Structure Treatment and Remediation Works to Start Mid November

The rehabilitation of the Bon Accord Bridge project is on target with plans to take advantage of the current dry conditions to begin works on the sub-structure. This work will include repairs, reinstatement, cleaning and applying a protective coating to the existing concrete substructure. The protective coating will not only act as a waterproof coating but penetrate the existing concrete and improve the density and strength of the material improving its longterm durability. Sub-structure rehabilitation and coating works are programmed to start mid-November, and a demolition contractor scheduled to start early in 2024.

Consultants continue to collaborate to ensure both the approaches to the bridge and the bridge design are cohesive, ensuring a smooth transition into construction. The Project Team is working with the designers to move directly onto procurement of the approach civil contractor once designs are issued. Pending weather and civil contractor availability, approach reconstruction works are programmed for completion in January 2024. Bridge deck reconstruction will follow.

A tender package will be released seeking civil contractors for the bridge approach construction works. This phase of the project will involve earthworks, concrete works, rock stabilisation and bitumen sealing components. The tender information will be advertised on Council’s website in due course.

Council appreciates the inconvenience caused by the closure of the Bon Accord Bridge and is working closely with the project team to deliver the refurbished bridge.

This project is partly funded through the Queensland Reconstruction Authority. Updates and additional information on the Bon Accord Bridge rehabilitation project and other Civil Works updates are available on our website northburnett.qld.gov.au/future-road-works/ or visit our Facebook page.
