One of our Parks and Open Spaces officers recently swapped their large 4WD vehicle for a smaller more compact vehicle and this changed the way that they saw road safety around the region. As a result, they have identified that while the hedge growing in the centre median strip in Gayndah looks great for tourists entering town, it obstructs the view of drivers turning right out of Bamboo Street onto the highway.
Council’s Parks and Open Spaces team has investigated the option of a low level flowering garden and are proposing to replace approximately 45 metres of hedge with Red and Blue Salvias. The team would also like to take the opportunity to fix the watering system, so the remaining hedge can be watered on a timer.
Council will offer a two week community consultation period, inviting feedback related to the proposal until Monday 28 November. The Parks and Open Spaces team is planning to complete this work before Christmas, and while we recognise that this might be a change in scenery, it should make for a safer driving environment.
