The rehabilitation of the Bon Accord Bridge is progressing well with the bridge contractor finalising project delivery plans. It is anticipated that the preliminary plans and initial designs of the replacement bridge deck units will be reviewed and approved shortly. The contractor is programming the treatment and repairs of the remaining wood components and existing damaged concrete substructure for later this year with dates to be confirmed soon.
The approach design consultant has undertaken the required survey and geotechnical testing to support design of the approaches, with preliminary investigations well advanced. Coordination of approach works, and bridge deck levels is a critical element, and it is expected that Council will receive a finalised detailed design in November. Pending weather and civil contractor availability, approach reconstruction works are programmed for completion early in the new year to allow bridge deck reconstruction to follow.
In the near future a tender package will be released seeking Civil Contractors for the approach construction works which will involve earthworks, concrete works, rock stabilisation and bitumen sealing components.
Council appreciates the inconvenience caused by the closure and is working closely with the project team to deliver the refurbished bridge.
