Easter is fast around the corner and there are plenty of options for the whole family to enjoy a long weekend getaway in the North Burnett this Easter!
A hop, skip and jump from Bundaberg, the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba or Brisbane – the North Burnett is a taste of the bush, unspoilt natural beauty and sandstone wilderness without getting too far off the beaten track.
With motels, cabins, caravan parks, free camps and RV stopovers the choice is yours whether to back the tent, caravan or just an overnight bag! There are also pet-friendly options so the whole family don’t have to miss out.
Take a Hike
Naturally beautiful comes to mind when you think of the North Burnett. Monstrous mountains, whimsical waterfalls and rockpools, and wildlife aplenty – getting back to nature is easy in the North Burnett.
If personal challenges get you out of bed in the morning, it may be time to tick the Summit at Mt Walsh National Park off your list. The granite bluff rises to 703 m above sea level and is challenging for even experienced bushwalkers and hikers – although the view from the top is totally worth the effort!

If a bit of peace and tranquility is more your long weekend vibe – also found in Mt Walsh National Park is the Waterfall Creek Rockpools. A family-friendly bush walking option, this shorter walk is refreshing and magical. With recent rain in the area it will be perfect for an Easter getaway!

Did you know that Cania Gorge National Park is the closest Sandstone park to the coast? Making adventures even more accessible – think less hours with kids in the car and more time for exploring or relaxing.

Did you know that there are more than 90 species of bird that call the magnificent Cania Gorge home? A family favourite is the daily bird feeding offered at the Big 4 Cania Park. Get up close to wild King Parrots, Cockatoos, Galahs and Rainbow Lorikeets.

Lay back and watch the stars
Escape to the secluded wilderness of Auburn River National Park. With only 5 camping spots available to book through QPWS, you can be guaranteed to feel like you are almost all alone in this spectacular landscape.
The view during the day over the Auburn River is incredible with the huge granite boulders and meandering Auburn River below. By night, enjoy the incredible light show of glorious stars and constellations thanks to the low levels of light pollution due to its rugged and almost remote location.

Light and Sound Show
Enjoy another type of light show in the country town of Eidsvold. Hosted at the RM Williams Australian Bush Learning Centre, be sure to see the Light and Sound Show that plays daily. This free show is a clever creation that shares the stories of Eidsvold locals – RM Williams, drovers, bush poets and storytellers through an incredible projection shared onto an innovative sculpture. The sculpture just won the @Australian Street Art Awards best Landmark Sculpture. Be sure to add this to your North Burnett bucket list!
Take advantage of the low-cost, self-contained RV Stopover that is pet friendly. For the kids (and big kids at heart) there is a flying fox included in the adventure playground that is easily watched over by the vantage point of the complimentary camp kitchen.
There are also motels, cabins and a caravan park in Eidsvold for the convenience of your preferred accommodation.

Fishing Feast
For a traditional Easter, cast a line in Cania or Wuruma dams, Claude Wharton, Jones or Kirar Weirs, or along the Burnett River to catch your fish feast for Good Friday. Keen anglers can hope to reel in Bass, Barra, Saratoga, Catfish and catch Red Claw in pots.
For more of a high speed thrill, Cania and Wuruma are great for tubing, skiing and other water sports.

Eat North Burnett
The North Burnett is hub of diverse agricultural production. Keep your eyes peeled for citrus orchards that follow the river near Gayndah and Mundubbera – the fruit is nearly ready to begin harvest, some early varieties may right for the picking come Easter! There are also pecans, blueberries, grapes, and mango producing farms and plenty of vegetables grown in the Burnett. Although not everything will be in season yet, be sure to keep your eyes open for roadside stalls that have local farm fresh produce.
Tasty treats can be found at the local cafes and bakeries. With Easter in mind be sure to have a sample of fresh, hot cross buns – perfectly enjoyed on a picnic at a local park.

Road trip Games
A game always makes the trip go a little bit quicker. “What’s the Crop”
Around Ban Ban Springs, Mundubbera through to Monto, keep your eyes open for peanuts, pecan trees, sorghum, corn, mung beans, lucerne and more. Some of these crops are getting close to maturity so keep an eye out for tractors and harvesters along the way.
