Living History Cartoon Room @ Gayndah Arts & Cultural Centre

The idea for the Living History Cartoon Room was sparked after seeing photos of Brisbane Museum’s Storytellers exhibition which showcases the ‘dark past’ of the capital city (crimes etc) in black and white line drawings within a 3D display. Rachel Koster of Xcursion Arts decided that a scaled down  version of this concept  would be a fantastic way to bring the community together in an artistic collaboration to present quirky bite sized pieces of Gayndah’s history in a fun, interactive and engaging way. With financial assistance from RADF funding, the project was pieced together from January to July 2021, working with year 4/5 from the State School, local museum staff and community members. Grade 6 of St Joseph's also were involved creating a youthful view of Gayndah now and into the future with 12 paintings which sit alongside the room.  School holiday workshops allowed children of all ages to decorate small trinket frames to hold photos from the past.  The entire room was hand drawn onto foamcore sheeting and photo card as well as upcycled furniture.  The line work was completed by Rachel with contributions from those listed on the back of the forth wall. Reclaiming Space – Gayndah Art Gallery

This Exhibition is about rediscovering the Exhibitors’ identity through repurposing materials that have been collected, stored and forgotten. Seinileva is a Ceramicist and a Weaver of Tongan descent, her craft is driven by strong connections with traditional materials, stories and customs. In her textile art, Seinileva uses scraps of jewellery, costumes and plastics to weave garments that represent different genera tions' styles of making. Seinileva shares this Exhibition with her father, Tuifua, who displays bowls that have been repurposed into kava bowls. Maintaining tradition through different materials.

Scratchboard Workshop at Gayndah Art Gallery

Susie Capewell who has worked tirelessly as a volunteer at the Gallery since its opening in 2012, will be leaving Gayndah later this year to set off on a new adventure, travelling around Australia with her husband Mark and with her art materials. When she eventually arrives home, we will all be excited to see the works of art she produces on her journey. ​Before Susie leaves, she will hold two pastel workshops in June. Museums and Galleries Queensland Workshop

On Tuesday 2 & Wednesday 3 August, Kirralee Robinson from MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES, QUEENSLAND will be coming from Brisbane to teach the handling of artworks, and how to put an exhibition together, including hanging artworks to best showcase the work on display. Both of these half-day workshops will take place at Gayndah Art Gallery and are free of charge, as they are fully RAFD funded.
