Award Winning Electronic Music duo the Ironing Maidens are visiting Gayndah this October with their Live Show, Electro Housewife.
The Ironing Maidens will bring dance music with a difference to the North Burnett region for a free for all ages family friendly Live Show on Friday, 13 October at the Gayndah Community Hall. Bookings are essential (details below).
Ingeniously adapting real irons and ironing boards into electronic instruments to create breakthrough music, Electro Housewife is a playful, thought provoking, wholly entertaining experience.
“It’s a high energy mix of music, visuals, costumes, dancing and Ironing puns,” artist Melania Jack explained.
“We see our show as a fresh take on house music.”
“In an entertaining way we explore feminism and domestic labour, but also we celebrate the history of technology and women in electronic music.”
In addition to the live performance, The Ironing Maidens will be offering creative workshops in electronic music making and dance in the lead up to their performance. This includes holding workshops at a local North Burnett School and community-based workshops in Gayndah on the 12 October, for anyone aged 12 years and up.
Bringing leading performers and arts educators to tour the Wide Bay Burnett is thanks to an innovative new partnership between Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, South and North Burnett Regional Councils and CQUniversity.
These organisations have been working together to develop the Wide Bay Burnett Touring Circuit which will increase opportunities for audiences across the Wide Bay to experience diverse artforms and high quality acts. In addition, provide skill development opportunities for artists, young people, and the wider community.
The Ironing Maidens have previously toured large festivals such as Woodford Folk Festival and international festivals such as Fusion Germany, Berlin Performance Art Festival.
Mayor Hotz said “We are thrilled that the Ironing Maidens will be touring the North Burnett region and performing live in Gayndah. I encourage residents and visitors from all parts of our region to take advantage of this opportunity to be part of the live show audience and this unique experience”.
We are grateful that Ironing Maidens will be helping to build the music and dance skills of young people in our Schools as well as the wider community”.
This project has been made possible thanks to the generous support of Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, South and North Burnett Regional Councils, as well as the generous support of Arts Queensland through the Regional Arts Development Fund and the Regional Arts Services Network and Arts Queensland.
