Current Emergency Management Information

Welcome to this week’s Mayor’s Update. Each week, we look to keep you informed about the latest Council developments, events, and initiatives. Your engagement with, and feedback to, Council is valuable; please see the details at the end of this notice if you would like to get in touch with myself or another divisional Councillor.

Flanno for a Farmer

Council has signed up to take part in the Farm Angels (previously known as Drought Angels) Flanno for a Farmer Day, to support Australian farmers and their families.

The North Burnett region is primarily made up of farming communities, which are often affected by natural disasters. By donning your finest ‘flanno’ on Friday, 23 August 2024, and donating, you will be helping Farm Angels to provide financial assistance, food hampers, care packs, and mental wellbeing support to farmers in need.

Join the checked revolution today and show our farmers that they are not alone and that we’re here to lend a helping hand.  Donations will be accepted in person at your local North Burnett Regional Council Customer Service and Library Centres, or by calling 1300 696 272, up to close of business on Friday, 23 August 2024.  Bushfire Preparedness

Residents will notice that there is smoke in the air as many farmers are making the most of the ideal conditions to ‘burn off’ for the purpose of pasture management. These are controlled burns that are monitored by Rural Fire Queensland. However, conditions can change swiftly, so this is also an ideal time for residents to review or create their bushfire survival plans. Whether you live in town or on a property, everyone should have a bushfire survival plan. For more information on permits to burn, or about bushfire survival plans, visit fires.qld.gov.au.

 Councils Budget Breakdown

Council recently adopted its 2024-2025 budget, and over the coming weeks, we are providing more information on what the budget details mean for the community. This week, we will focus on Council’s operational plan.

Operational Plan

The Operational Plan 2024-2025 outlines how Council will progress the implementation of our Corporate Plan 2021-2026, with a more detailed one-year outlook. Council’s corporate plan sets a longer term strategic direction over a five-year period, answering the question of where Council wants to be at the end of the plan, with annual operational plans providing for how we will get there.

Council’s operational plan details programs, projects, and services that will be delivered throughout the financial year, or over multiple financial years, to achieve Council’s vision and corporate plan goals. Each action is assigned to a functional area of Council, and progress is reported quarterly through regular progress reporting. Progress reporting provides the community and elected members with detailed information on project and service delivery during the period. This may include project completion or milestone achievement, or constraints that may be impacting their delivery, such as weather events or natural disasters.

The activities in the operational plan are integrated with Council’s annual budget, and a comprehensive final progress report will be included in Council’s annual report at the conclusion of the period. To view the 2024-2025 operational plan, visit: northburnett.qld.gov.au/plans-and-reports

Access to Wolca Reserve at Mount Perry

Wolca Reserve at Mount Perry is a popular stopover for many tourists. At the present time, the amenities facilities at the reserve are closed due to a problem with the bore, which means that the toilets and water supply are unavailable. While campers and tourists who rely on access to the amenities facilities are not able to stay at the reserve due to the amenities closure, self-contained travellers with their own amenities and water supply may continue to access the reserve.
