Current Emergency Management Information

Welcome to this week’s Mayor’s Update. Each week, we look to keep you informed about the latest Council developments, events, and initiatives. Your engagement and feedback are valuable; please see the details at the end of this notice if you would like to get in touch with myself or another divisional councillor.

Bon Accord Bridge Update

Council is pleased to announce that significant progress has been made on the Bon Accord Bridge refurbishment, with the bridge contractor completing the bridge structure and initial seal in October 2024.

In addition to the completed bridge work, Stage 2 – Approach Works, has been awarded and is well underway with bulk earthworks and the first approach slabs completed. The local subcontractors are working to complete the remaining relieving slabs and concrete shoulder protection, including gabion baskets.

Following concrete works, finalisation of the verge and shoulder clearing, road and bridge surfacing, signage, and line-marking will be completed. These works will also address some of the safety concerns that have been raised by the community.

Once the bridge is open to the public, the road safety auditors will return to finalise the road safety audit works. The final inspections must be carried out while the road and bridge are in use and will allow the auditors to identify any additional areas for consideration.

While Council would like to provide a firm date for the bridge opening, we are reluctant to do so due to the unstable and, in some cases, isolated weather conditions currently being experienced across the region.

Council appreciates the community’s patience and understanding during the bridge closure. We are working closely with the project team to ensure the delivery of a high-quality refurbished bridge.

Assistance provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

 Gayndah Streetscape Design

Council has been successful in sourcing funding to develop a staged, long-term urban design plan for the Gayndah central business district from the intersection of Warton and Meson Streets, along Capper Street, to the Gayndah Pool. The project, which is targeted to commence in mid-2025, will begin with an initial concept design involving community consultation, as well as the development of detailed designs for initial stages.

Council is pleased to have received funding to develop this design, positioning us well for future capital grant opportunities and ensuring future maintenance decisions are well informed and in line with the developed plans. Interested residents are encouraged to keep an eye out for engagement opportunities regarding the concept design, which are likely to begin in mid-2025.

Eidsvold Historical Society – Heritage Evening

On Saturday, November 16, 2024, the Eidsvold Historical Society hosted their Heritage Evening at the museum. Despite the stormy weather, the event provided a warm and welcoming atmosphere, complete with a delicious home-cooked meal and plenty of stories celebrating Eidsvold’s rich history.

The community’s generosity played a key role in the evening’s success. Eidsvold Rural and local community members contributed an impressive assortment of goodies for the raffle, while DJ Steel and Concrete donated a striking garden windmill.

The night ended on a magical note as attendees were treated to a meteor shower lighting up the western sky—a perfect, unexpected finale to the evening.

The Eidsvold Historical Society invites everyone to join their next meeting on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 4pm. Whether you’re a history buff or just curious to learn more about the region, it’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with others who share a passion for preserving Eidsvold’s heritage.
