Pressure Washing Monto CBD
With Monto centenary celebrations well underway, Council will soon commence pressure washing in the Monto CBD. These works are scheduled to begin on 26 August 2024, from 6.00am to 9.00am daily, and are expected to be completed by 9 September 2024. Council will seek to minimise business disruption by prioritising cleaning in areas before opening hours. We thank residents for their patience and understanding and look forward to the completion of the works.

Queensland Road Safety Week (QRSW) 26-30 August 2024
QRSW is a state-wide programme from the Queensland Government StreetSmarts initiative. Every day, road crashes devastate the lives and take an enormous toll on families and communities. The Fatal Five – speeding, drink driving, failing to wear seatbelts and driving while tired or distracted – are all major contributors to lives lost on our roads and are all avoidable.

Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Please join Council and the Department of Transport and Main Roads in raising awareness of Queensland Road Safety Week. Follow the StreetSmarts facebook page www.facebook.com/streetsmartsQLD or visit the Queensland Road Safety Week website for information, downloadable flyers, activities and more! streetsmarts.initiatives.qld.gov.au/queensland-road-safety-week-2024/

Councils Budget Breakdown
Council recently adopted its 2024-2025 budget, and over the coming weeks, we are providing more information on what the budget details mean for the community. This week, we will focus on Council’s procurement policy.
Procurement Policy

A procurement policy is a set of guidelines that govern purchasing procedures and how a local government acquires goods and services. This policy is an integral part of Council’s budget development, ensuring that procurement processes achieve balanced value for money in accordance with sound contracting principles and are transparent and fair.

Council’s procurement policy provides for a local preference, including the use of local businesses and businesses that employ locals where appropriate. While value for money is a key consideration, this local preference seeks to balance costs with the value of competitive local businesses and local employment opportunities.

When purchasing goods and services, Council actively seeks out potential local suppliers and encourages local businesses to provide quotes where possible. For larger jobs, Council also encourages principal contractors to offer opportunities for local suppliers or subcontractors.

For further information, Council’s procurement policy can be viewed on our website, www.northburnett.qld.gov.au/policy-register. Keep an eye on our Tender’s page for opportunities to do business with Council: www.northburnett.qld.gov.au/tenders.

Councillor Activities
On Thursday 22 August 2024, several Councillors and other community members took part in ‘Mock Interviews’ with the year 10 students from Burnett State College and Mundubbera State College. This program provides students with valuable experience in employment interviews and communication with leaders in a variety of industries.

The students performed exceptionally well throughout the interviews, and councillors expressed excitement in supporting the next generation to enter the workforce in our community or progress through their studies in their chosen fields. Well done.
