Mundubbera Bollards

The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Committee has been committed to lifting the profile of local artists throughout the North Burnett Region, by developing a number of exciting projects.  Since 2019, five projects have been delivered in our region in Biggenden, Eidsvold, Gayndah, Monto and Mount Perry.  Mundubbera’s “Decorative Laneway Bollards” Project will finalise this initiative and bring some additional vibrancy through public art to the Mundubbera Streetscape.

The decorative bollards depict aspects of Mundubbera and surrounds – places, people, flora, fauna, rural life and natural environment by four Mundubbera-based photographers:  Lorraine Maskell, Sandie Read, Lynette Vicary and Kelly Beresford.

In addition to the bollards, a sign will also be erected nearby, to explain the project and raise the profile of the Mundubbera Regional Art Gallery (MRAG,) which is located just down the alleyway where the bollards are installed.  Look out for this new sign, which is being codesigned by the MRAG Committee and is expected to be installed before the end of the year.

$1.2 billion Funding for Bundaberg Hospital

The Queensland Government will invest $1.2 billion to deliver a new state-of-the-art Bundaberg Hospital, adding an additional 121 beds, on a new site. Early works will start off-site by the end of this year and the new hospital is expected to open in the second half of 2027. Construction of the new hospital will also provide a boost for the local economy, with the project expected to create around 2,887 jobs during construction.

Australia Day Event Decision

At the Council General Meeting on Wednesday 26 October 2022, Councillors resolved to hold one regional Australia Day Event in 2023, after discussions informed by community sentiment, gathered by the Australia Day survey. There will be a Local Hero Award for each township, and this will be decided once nominations are received. Application for nomination forms will be made available on Council’s website in the near future. Holding one regional event for the North Burnett does not rule out the option of holding other Australia Day events, should the different townships like to organise their own separate events.

Purchase of New Councillor Vehicles

It was decided at the Council General Meeting on Wednesday 26 October 2022, that Council will buy small 4WD vehicles as replacement vehicles for each of the Councillors.

Portfolio Councillors Selected

Councillors have been assigned portfolios which require their commitment to the different service areas of the region. Cr Giddins has been assigned the Arts Sports and Recreation portfolio. Cr Jones will cover Economic Development, Community and Tourism. Cr Payne has been assigned Water and Wastewater, and Cr Dingle will work with the Roads and Infrastructure portfolio. Mayor Les Hotz will act as proxy Councillor to Cr Dingle. Councillor Kingsley Mesner will act as proxy Councillor to Councillors Payne and Dingle. Cr Jones will act as proxy Councillor to Cr Giddins, and Cr Giddins will act as proxy to Cr Melinda Jones.

Recent Storm Damage

Council crews responded to a number of jobs last Thursday 27 October 2022, following the storms that blew through Mundubbera and Gayndah.  The destructive winds caused damage across the region, including power outages and trees down. Council would like to remind the community to use our call centres to log jobs, as this makes it much easier for our staff to plan and respond to new jobs. The storm was also a timely reminder of the importance of preparing your property for severe weather, by having an emergency plan and kit in place for your household. Have you got your Get Ready North Burnett fridge magnet in a visible place? If not, you can grab one from your local library and customer service centre. It has all the numbers of who to call in a disaster and websites you can go to, for emergency information.
