During the past two weeks, Councillor Melinda Jones, Chairperson of the Local Disaster Management Group and Councillor Dael Giddens, Deputy Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group, CEO Margot Stork and some staff have participated in Disaster Management training. These Masterclasses related to Disaster Planning in Dynamic Environments and Leadership in Disaster, Crisis and Adversity, and were facilitated by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.  The formal training helps to ensure that Council is better equipped to undertake planning and response responsibilities on behalf of the community and in collaboration with other agencies.

Last Wednesday, Councillor Michael Dingle, CEO Margot Stork and I met with Mr David Janetzki, Queensland Parliament Shadow Treasurer.  We discussed many matters including Financial Assistance Grants, Council’s financial position, roads, Paradise Dam returning to normal levels, as well as media outlets and tourism.

Last week’s Councillor Workshop related to Council strategic planning and long-term intended positioning.  We’re evaluating a Strategic Delivery Review and action plan, as well as reviewing the Attorney General Financial Audit Reports, to ensure that Council performs more efficiently and effectively on behalf of the community, and as a formal local government entity.  We’re also assessing how these formal documents are integrated with Council’s Operational Plan.  This is significant work, with the Executive Leadership Team.

The Queensland Reconstruction Authority have been attending private properties from Monday 13 June, to undertake damage assessments.  This process also helps Queensland Government authorities to gain understanding of impacted community need and priorities after severe weather events.  The assessments are intended to assist with planning for severe events in the future, too.  We appreciate community cooperation and feedback for authorities.
