Bon Accord Bridge Update
Council continues to work with the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) as they review in detail, Council’s submission to fund the repair and upgrade works. This has included several meetings via Teams to clarify the extent of damage caused by the flood event compared with normal wear and tear.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide timeframes for QRA to complete their assessment, however, please be assured that Council officers are continuing to progress the matter.
Mount Perry Caravan Park Dump Point
Council provides a caravan and motor home dump point at Mount Perry Caravan Park for tourists visiting the region. The dump point can be accessed by visiting the Mount Perry Caravan Park office. Concerned residents have recently contacted Council regarding the use of the dump point by people who are residing in temporary or mobile dwellings on private properties. Council has responded to these concerns, by reiterating that the purpose of the dump point is for legitimate tourists only.
Council will continue to liaise with the operators of the Mount Perry Caravan Park, to support them in ensuring compliance with the proper use of the dump point by members of the public.
Wide Bay Health Information Session 9 January 2023
On Tuesday 10 January 2023 Cr Dingle, Cr Giddins, Cr Jones, Cr Mesner, the CEO and I met with representatives from the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service, including Dr Josette Chor, Public Health Physician.
Information was supplied to us in relation to Covid-19 vaccination updates as well as the Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV). We were also informed about what mosquito control measures are being put in place in our region, as the North Burnett area is one that is high risk for JEV. Free community public sessions were also held in Mundubbera and Monto on Monday 9 January 2023, to give the public an update on mosquito-borne diseases and also to advise that free vaccination is available for JEV at local GP’s in Biggenden, Mundubbera and Monto.
Gayndah Bluecare Residence Social Group
Councillor Giddins attended the Gayndah Bluecare Residence Social Group on Wednesday 11 January 2023, following an invitation to chat with the local social respite group there. This group meets at the Gayndah Bluecare Centre every Wednesday and Cr Giddins was able to answer various questions about Council services in the North Burnett at the meeting.
It was great to hear that members of the group take advantage of the bus service to Bundaberg and are very appreciative of Council running this service. Residents were also interested in knowing more about this year’s Australia Day events and Cr Giddins was able to give an update on the new Regional Australia Day event that will be held in Eidsvold on 26 January 2023.
Since many residents do not have access to personal transport, Cr Giddins advised that the North Burnett Transport Service will be providing a bus service on the day, running from Gayndah to Eidsvold and returning in the afternoon. If any members of the public require public transport to attend the Australia Day event in Eidsvold, you can book online on our website, or by calling Council on 1300 696 272.
