Wide Bay Burnett Regional Organisation of Councils

On Friday 8 September 2023, the CEO and I attended the Annual General Meeting for Wide Bay Burnett Regional Organisation of Councils (WBBROC). WBBROC is the Wide Bay’s peak local government organisation which works to raise cross-regional issues with the State and Federal governments. The Executive positions consists of Mayors of each member council, deputy mayors of each member council as proxy and CEO, Mr Ken Diehm. Mayor George Seymour from Fraser Coast Regional Council was appointed the president and CEO, Mr Ken Diehm also from Fraser Coast Regional Council was appointed the Secretary/Treasurer position. The reconfiguration of this organisation will provide a stronger voice for this region to State and Federal government.

 Department of Agriculture and Fisheries

During this month’s catch up with Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, topics on table that were discussed included biosecurity measures, washdown bays and declared plant weed management, focusing on parthenium. It is recognised that parthenium weed is of significant concern in the North Burnett region and a combined effort between State and Local governments and landholders is required to address this issue.

Mungungo vs The World Charity 7 A Side Cricket Day

Mungungo vs The World Charity Cricket Day celebrated its 10th annual competition over the weekend, raising funds for local children’s sports and the vital LifeFlight service.

16 teams battled to claim the title, with the cricket day running like clockwork. The Kalpowar Barracks Tug-a-war made for some entertaining competition.

With generous sponsors including the Brisbane Broncos, Queensland Cricket, The Heat, The Bulls Masters, and local businesses, there were plenty of items to auction and raffle. However, on the day Col List’s handmade original John Deere Tractor was the auction winner and sold to one very excited family. The Bronco’s merchandise may also prove to be a winner in a couple of weekend’s time.

The generosity and support of the community was overwhelming, and it was wonderful to see this event so well supported. Planning is already underway for next year’s event, where the committee hopes, they will only expand to provide families with a fun day that meets all the needs of our community.
