Local Disaster Management Group Meeting – 15 August 2023

The North Burnett SES hosted a BBQ breakfast before the recent Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) meeting on 15 August 2023, to celebrate the official handover of the new All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and trailer. The ATV was purchased by funds donated from Ampol during the 2022 SEQ Rainfall and Flooding Event. This asset will be based with the Mundubbera SES and will enhance the operational capacity of the SES to respond to search and rescue operations across the region.

The LDMG meet with local emergency services agencies four (4) times a year to discuss key important topics in relation to Local Disaster and preparedness. Key agencies involved include Queensland Police Service, Queensland Ambulance Services, Queensland Fire Services, SES, Council, SunWater, Queensland Health, and Australian Red Cross.

LDMG Chair Cr Jones, LDMG Deputy Chair Cr Giddins, CEO Margot Stork and required Council staff attended a Warnings and Alert training session. This training ensures participants have up to date knowledge of relevant warnings and alerts, the Standard Emergency Signal (SEWS) and Emergency Alert (EA).

Elected Member Update – 16 August 2023

Every year the Local Government Association Queensland (LGAQ) meet with elected members to provide an update to Councillors and relevant staff. These sessions are a valuable opportunity for elected members to discuss issues impacting the North Burnett directly with LGAQ representatives. This session included a review of 2020-2024 term, advocating for more liveable Queensland communities, sector wide updates, liveability adjustments, looking forward into 2024 and upcoming key events.

Mock Interviews – 17 August 2023

On Thursday 17 August 2023, Cr Dingle, Cr Payne, Cr Giddins, other community members and I took part in ‘Mock Interviews’ with the year 10 students from Burnett State College and Mundubbera State College. This program provides students with valuable experience in employment interviews and communication with leaders in a variety of industries. The program also assists students in determining their preferred vocation and draws attention to their strengths and opportunities for improvement.

The students performed exceptionally well throughout the interviews, and it is exciting to see the next generation entering the workforce in our community or watching them progress through their studies in their chosen fields. Well done.
