Monto Show
The Monto and District 92nd Annual Show spanned three (3) days, from 21-23 April 2023, and had something for everyone who attended. The show commenced on Friday night with a rodeo, followed on Saturday, by horseman trials, championship dog show, chainsaw events, cattle judging, working dog challenge, fireworks and more. The show continued on Sunday, with campdraft, stud beef, young herdsman awards, two handed cutting, guest speakers, scavenger hunt and more. I would like to congratulate Show Society organisers, competition entrants and volunteers for the incredible work that led to such a successful weekend of events.

Special Volunteers – Monto
On Thursday 13 April 2023, I attended a presentation at Ridgehaven Retirement Complex, to present recognition awards to, two (2) local community members who have volunteered their time to their community for the past 20 years. It was an honour to be able to present the awards, to show appreciation for their generosity and willingness to give selflessly to help others. In the North Burnett Region, there are many volunteers who give their time to our communities and others, and we cannot thank them enough for their dedication. Please know that your generosity does not go unnoticed, without each one of you, many opportunities would not be available for our communities.

Free Workshops – Building Grazing Business Resilience
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries will run two (2) free workshops for graziers to learn about the new drought preparedness assistance grants. The workshops will take place at the Gin Gin Memorial Hall on 16 May 2023 and the Nanango Services Club on 17 May 2023, both from 8.30am –2.30pm. Safer Roads Sooner is a minor works program that aims to improve the safety of state-controlled road networks. Of the $3.51 million, $220,000 has been allocated to works to improve pedestrian crossing facilities on the Burnett Highway, Capper Street, Gayndah.

Landowner Pest Management Workshops
The Queensland Feral Pest Initiative will host two (2) workshops in the North Burnett as part of a series being offered to landowners. The workshops will feature guest speakers who will discuss the latest news and research from people within the industry who deal with feral pig and wild dog management. The workshops will be held on 31 May 2023 at the Mundubbera Community Hall, from 9am-1pm, and 1 June 2023 at the Monto Community Hall, from 9am-1pm. BIEDO Photography Competition and BeLong Table Lunch
BIEDO plays an important role in supporting the communities of the Burnett region. This month is no exception, with their ‘Stories from Golden Hearts’ photography competition, open to people aged six (6) and up, with three (3) different age categories. The competition is a golden opportunity for artists to showcase their creativity and be in the running for a share of the prize pool of $2000. The winners will be announced at the North Burnett BeLong Table Lunch on Saturday 27 May 2023 at the Mount Perry Racecourse. The theme is universal aspects of wellbeing, which includes body, mind, spirit, people, place and planet, and while interpretation is up to the artists, the judges are looking for images which nurture and uplift the spirit. For more information and to submit your entry, go to BIEDO’s website here: www.biedo.org.au. Entries close 1 May 2023.

Gayndah Orange Festival
