Shortage of Doctors within the Region
Many regional and rural communities are struggling with the ongoing issues of having access to a Doctor in their town. I am aware of this situation and have raised it with the Minister for Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services and Minister for Women, the Honourable Shannon Fentiman.

More than $17 million in funding has been provided to Queensland Health to allow junior doctors employed by Queensland Hospital and Health Services (HHS) to undertake a rotation at a rural private General Practice or approved primary care facility over the next two (2) years.

Participating General Practices and primary facilities for our region will be Monto Hospital and Mundubbera Multipurpose Health Service (MPHS).

Opening of new Business in the North Burnett

To see if your business is eligible, please contact Council’s Community Team or visit https://northburnett.qld.gov.au/streetscape-projects/ for further information.

Flying Foxes in the North Burnett
Flying foxes are currently present in the region. Disturbing flying foxes will increase health risks to the community, so it is important for residents to be aware of flying foxes nearby, keep a safe distance from them and do not touch bats or flying foxes, even when they appear to be deceased. If you become bitten or scratched, seek medical attention immediately.

The Department of Environment and Science provides information on flying foxes, as well as tips for living safely near them. You can access this information on their website here www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/animals/living-with/bats

If you have a flying fox roost in or near your property, please report to Council. You can also find more information on bat and flying fox safety, on Council’s website www.northburnett.qld.gov.au/flying-foxes or contact Council’s Environmental team on 1300 696 272.
