Local Disaster Management Group Responds to Weekend Weather
I would like to acknowledge the efforts of the Local Disaster Management Group over the weekend, as they engaged in a Stand Up response to the significant rainfall event that took place between Friday night and Saturday 21-22 October 2022. There were a number of road closures and there was concern for the township of Dallarnil, about a possible need for evacuation. Our position at present is Stand Down. If primary producers have any concerns about the effects of rainfall on their properties, I encourage them to make a submission to the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries via the online Disaster Impact Survey. Producers can access the survey online at any time at: http://www.daf.qld.gov.au/disasterimpactsurvey.

North Burnett Transport Service Community Forum – Monday 7 November 2022
In December 2021, Council announced it had once again secured the Translink long-distance coach contract, to provide public transport in the North Burnett region, servicing the following routes:
- Mundubbera-Bundaberg
- Mundubbera-Bundaberg (via Eidsvold)
- Mundubbera-Maryborough
- Monto-Ceratodus (on demand)
Given the size of the region and our proximity to major centres, this bus service is essential in helping many North Burnett residents access medical, professional and personal appointments, while also providing a public transport option for tourists and workers wishing to travel to our region for work or play. The North Burnett Transport Service will be holding a community forum on Monday, 7 November 2022 at 2:30pm at the Mundubbera Community Hall. Community members are invited to attend to hear the latest updates on the bus service, potential service enhancements and to share you likes, dislikes and ideas with us. We look forward to seeing you there.
Blueberry Festival
Despite last weekend’s wet weather, spirits were high and the Mundubbera Blueberry Festival unfolded mostly as planned. With a change of location organised for the Jam Sesh on Friday night and the weather finally easing on Saturday, locals and visitors alike were able to feast and enjoy the entertainment over the two days. I would like to acknowledge the hard work that event organisers and volunteers put into the festival, making it a successful celebration of local agriculture and a drawcard for visitors from far and wide.
Report from Dallarnil Community-led Recovery Meeting
Red Cross facilitated a sharing and future planning session with the Dallarnil community on Friday 21 October 2022, regarding the flood events of January and February this year. Representatives from disaster response and recovery agencies shared knowledge around how disaster response works, actions which have been implemented since the January and February events, and future opportunities for improvement. Agencies also heard from the community about opportunities to improve the preparedness and safety of the Dallarnil Community. The Human, Social and Economic Recovery Group will continue working with residents to implement identified improvements. Anyone who would like to discuss disaster preparedness can contact Council’s Disaster Management Team on 1300 696 272.
