Letters are a unique form of communication that may be a dying art. They are an intimate piece of expression in a world full of instant connections. Communication comes is so many forms- in person, over the phone and most popularly through social media engagement. Now our mailboxes are only for bills, specials catalogues and the odd ‘vote 1’ pamphlets. Letters seems a thing of the past, though there is something special about a handwritten letter, the personality and emotion of the writer. It’s a unique piece of art made just for you, a window in time of the life of the sender. ‘Love Letters’ was created by artists living in regional Queensland, and regional and metropolitan New South Wales. The exhibition of collaborative work was developed through a letter exchange program in response to border closures, social isolation and the loneliness experienced during COVID-19 restrictions. Each exchange embraced an old fashioned way of connecting. Letters were handwritten and crafted by the artists making each letter a piece of art.
