Walking Network Plan Stakeholder Workshop

North Burnett Regional Council, in partnership with the Queensland Government, is preparing “Walking Network Plans” for the towns of Gayndah, Mundubbera, Monto, Eidsvold and Biggenden.

This project aims to develop plans for walking networks (paths) that are safe, connected and accessible for all community members. The planning, which will run until mid-2023, is jointly funded under the Queensland Government’s Walking Local Government Grants program.

Community stakeholder workshops will be held in the coming weeks to gain input and feedback from our communities, businesses, not-for profit sector and community groups in the planning stage of this project.  These workshops are vital in developing “Walking Network Plans” which will guide Council’s works program for walking networks for the next 10 years and beyond. For more details about the workshops, please see the following media release.

To RSVP, please contact Council by 4.30 pm, Friday 25 November 2022, on 1300 696 272 or email admin@northburnett.qld.gov.au

Gayndah Rotary and Community Christmas Tree Decorating

CEO Margot Stork and Councillor Dael Giddins were amongst about 13 volunteers who woke up bright and early to help decorate the Rotary Christmas Tree on Saturday 19 November 2022. As well as their time and energy, local business owners also donated the use of a truck and lifting equipment, to assemble the tree and decorate it with electric lights and decorations.

St Therese Fair in Monto, Friday 18 November 2022

Visitors to St Therese’s Christmas Fair last Friday 18 November 2022, were treated to the beautiful voices of three different school choirs performing Christmas carols, as well as the Monto Performing Arts Group and Brooklyn Handford Band. There was also plenty of exciting entertainment with the Tyrone Circus Fire Stunts and rides for children and the young at heart.

End of Year School Presentations

Councillors, CEO and I have been privileged to attend several School Graduation/Award Presentations to students throughout the North Burnett Region. It has been a pleasure to share in the achievements of celebration for schools and to witness the sincere dedication of our teaching staff throughout the Region.

It also has been rewarding to see the achievements of students of all ages and the enthusiasm and commitment to academic and sporting events. I am aware that for a variety of reasons some families from our Region choose to have their students educated further afield, however after seeing the results and achievements of our students and teaching staff, it is evident that our region is well serviced and not disadvantaged from an education point of view.

On behalf of Council, I thank all schools and teachers for their dedication and effort in their education of our students, and to the students, I congratulate them for their achievements throughout the year, irrespective of their position in their class. Having said that, I also thank the parents, citizens and friends associations for their valued support of their school, and the continuous support of parents in encouraging their students throughout their schooling life. We recognise that encouragement and training is the basis for future life and employment opportunities, wherever a student wishes to study or work.

Eidsvold TV Transmitter Shutdown

Access to terrestrial free-to-air television from Eidsvold’s Council-owned tower will no longer be available after the shutdown which is scheduled for 27 January 2023.

ABC TV services in Eidsvold are supplied by ABC at the Broadcast Australia facility located adjacent to Council’s tower. We expect that this service will likely be withdrawn at the same time as the other services, however we have no confirmation of that yet.  As part of this process, Council recommends that affected residents and businesses contact their local antenna technician for more information on accessing the VAST service.

Customer Service Standard for Water and Wastewater Survey

Council has invited the region’s water and sewerage customers to have their say in relation to the revised Customer Service Standard for Water and Wastewater. The revised standard and the feedback survey, which will remain open until 1 December 2022 can be found here.

The Council General Meeting will be held in Biggenden this Wednesday in the Boardroom, starting at 9:00 am. Members of the public are welcome to attend. The Public Information Session will be held following the General Meeting from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.

Wide Bay Burnett Regional Plan Survey

Civil Works Update

Civil works staff are currently repairing and preparing roads for the upcoming reseal program. This means that you might see crews out about working, but leaving jobs looking half finished. Don’t be alarmed, they are only preparing sites for the resealing contractor.

You may also notice that some of our grading zones in the North of the region are currently inactive. This is due to the reallocation of resources to the Queensland Government Transport and Main Roads (TMR) network, to help deliver several projects in the lead-up to TMR’s annual reseal program. We’ve also allocated additional grading resources to the Kalpowar and Gladstone roads ahead of the Christmas break. The work our crews are undertaking on the Queensland Government network helps to make the highest-priority roads in our region safe, and it also generates income for Council.

  • Maintenance Grading Zone 2 – Continuing Bunns Road and commencing Camboon Road
  • Maintenance Grading Zone 4 – Continuing Yarrol Road and commencing Branch Creek Road
  • Maintenance Grading Zone 7 – Moretons Road and Lochaber Road
  • Maintenance Grading Zone 8 – Ezzys Road
  • Construction Crew North – Continuing Monto-Mt Perry Stabilisation Package and commencing TMR Reseal Preparation
  • Resource Crew North – Continuing Kalpowar Road MF Grade
  • Construction Crew South – Continuing Gayndah – Mundubbera – Reseal Preparation
  • Resource Crews South – Continuing Hawkwood Rod – Reform (Yesberg Engineering) and New Cadarga Road – Resheet (Yesberg Earthmoving)
