Award Winning Electronic Music duo the Ironing Maidens are visiting Gayndah this October with their Live Show, Electro Housewife. The Ironing Maidens will bring dance music with a difference to the North Burnett region for a free for all ages family friendly Live Show on Friday, 13 October at the Gayndah Community Hall. Bookings are essential (details below). Ingeniously adapting real irons and ironing boards into electronic instruments to create breakthrough music, Electro Housewife is a playful, thought provoking, wholly entertaining experience. A celebration of Biggenden's bounty and the legacy left by the early pioneers. It is also the 200th anniversary of birth of William Henry Walsh, the first white settler in the district who came after the explorers. The event will include abook launch of the Biggenden Wall of Fame and Pioneer Walk, bus tour of the district, street markets, music, pony rides, old time activities, a guided climb of Mt Walsh, art exhibition, rose display and a theatre restaurant. During the celebration everyone will be encouraged to wear period dress. At the same time there will be a Biggenden School Class Reunion of Year 10, 1968 and a Back to Biggenden for all those who have moved away. This event will be sponsored by the Biggenden Historical Society.
Biggenden’s Big Weekend 13-15 October 2023 William Henry Walsh 200 th Birthday William Henry Walsh Esquire, was born in 1823 Berkshire, England. Oxford educated, he arrived in Australia aged twenty-three and set up Degilbo Station. He was the first European to settle in our district after the explorers. Squatter, pastoralist and controversial politician, Walsh died in Toowoong Brisbane 1888. Let’s celebrate the bounty of Biggenden and district by honouring the hard work, tenacity and vision of all the early settlers.
